Kristen Dams-O'Connor, Ph.D., director of the Brain Injury Research Center of Mount Sinai, a clinical neuropsychologist, and professor in the Departments of Rehabilitation Medicine and Neurology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, will discuss TBI Model Systems research investigating patterns of change in functional status over the first five years after TBI. She will use population-weighted data from the TBI Model System National Database to illustrate the tremendous variability in TBI outcomes over time and to discuss factors that are associated with unfavorable trajectories on measures of global disability and supervision needs. Results from these investigations can help determine optimal timing and content of preventative interventions to maximize functional independence for subgroups of individuals with TBI.
