People with moderate-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) experience several medical and mental health comorbidities during the long-term course of recovery and life after injury. Flora Hammond, M.D., reviews the findings of a recent study of the TBI Model Systems that looked at the conditions present among those 10 years post-injury. She also discusses implications of these findings and other studies, which include proactive medical care, surveillance, prevention, lifestyle, and healthy behaviors for potentially modifying comorbidity presence, severity, and impact over the life span.
