This webinar will focus on recently published evidence-based recommendations for clinicians to support sexual health and wellness for individuals with TBI. These recommendations were  developed by an expert panel of North American clinicians and researchers. Recommendations cover the areas of: interprofessional team training; early education; creating individualized interventions; education, assessment, and management of causes of sexual dysfunction; and provision of written materials and relationship coaching to individuals with TBI and their partners.

Learning Objectives

  • List two gaps in current practice of addressing intimacy and sexuality for individuals with TBI.
  • Discuss two INTIMASY recommendations for the interprofessional team to address intimacy and sexuality.  
  • Describe two INTIMASY recommendations for specific suggestions that clinicians can provide to individuals with TBI and their partners to improve sexual functioning.

Speaker Bio:

Angelle Sander, Ph.D., FACRM, is a clinical neuropsychologist who is a Senior Scientist and Director of the Brain Injury Research Center (BIRC) at TIRR Memorial Hermann and Professor in the H. Ben Taub Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine. She is a nationally recognized expert in the field of rehabilitation and has received multiple national research awards, including a NIDILRR Mary E. Switzer Rehabilitation Research Fellowship, the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine’s Deborah L. Wilkerson Early Career Award in Rehabilitation Research, and the Brain Injury Association of America’s William Fields Caveness Award. Dr. Sander has extensive experience in carrying out research grants and disseminating information to professional and consumer audiences. She has served as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI for two TBI Model System Collaborative Grants, PI for two consecutive Rehabilitation Research and Training Centers on Community Integration/Participation in Persons with TBI, and Project Director or Co-Director for four TBI Model System grants. She has published over 150 peer reviewed articles, 20 book chapters, and co-edited 2 books. She has co-authored numerous TBIMS Consumer Fact Sheets and several educational manuals and brochures for people with TBI and their caregivers or for rehabilitation professionals, including on the topic of intimacy and sexuality.

Registration cancellations must be emailed to customerservice@biausa.org. Refund Eligibility: Webinar registration fees are refundable if submitted no later than 24 hours before the scheduled webinar date/start time. Refunds are subject to a $10 cancellation fee. Cancellations received less than 24 hours before the scheduled webinar date/start time will not be refunded. If you are unable to attend the live webinar, you can request access to the recorded webinar. If we cancel a webinar due to circumstances beyond our control, we will notify attendees with as much advance notice as possible. Attendees will be given the opportunity to transfer their registration to another webinar or obtain a full refund.

Refunds are Not Provided for the Following Reasons: 1. Attendee Technology. It is the responsibility of the webinar attendee to test the computer setup prior to the start of the webinar. If failure with your technology prevents access to the live webinar, you will not be eligible for a refund. If the technical problem is due to our error, we will offer you the choice of access to a copy of the recording or a full refund. 2. Attendee Email. Refunds will not be issued in cases where an attendee did not receive the webinar login instruction email. It is the attendee’s responsibility to contact us if they don’t receive the required login information at least 24 hours prior to the start time of the webinar. 3. Attendee Absence. Attendees who do not participate in the live webinar will not be entitled to a refund.
