One aspect of military traumatic brain injury (TBI) is trauma exposure and the high occurrence of mental health comorbidities. 

In this Mitchell Rosenthal Memorial Research webinar Jacob A. Finn, Ph.D., LP, discusses the prevalence and predictors of depression and anxiety at two-years post-TBI in the Department of Veterans Affairs TBI Model Systems national database. Clinical implications and future directions will also be discussed.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Finn is a staff psychologist and clinician investigator at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, as well as an adjunct assistant professor in the research track at the University of Minnesota's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.  He completed his undergraduate studies in psychology at Kent State University, his graduate studies in clinical psychology at The University of Tulsa, his predoctoral internship at the Minneapolis VAHCS, and his post-doctoral fellowship in clinical assessment at Kent State University.  Dr. Finn joined the Minneapolis VA Rehabilitation Psychology Team in December 2014.  He is now the site Principal Investigator for the VA TBI Model Systems national database, a longitudinal study of service members and veterans with TBI.  Dr. Finn's research focuses on 1) the bi-directional influences between TBI and mental health, specifically using dimensional models of psychopathology; 2) tailoring rehabilitation services based on the patient's individual differences; and 3) the bi-directional influences between rehabilitation/recovery and interpersonal functioning.  Dr. Finn also proudly provides psychological assessment services to Minneapolis VA’s Polytrauma Transitional Rehabilitation Program and the outpatient TBI rehabilitation team.
