Speech, language, and cognition can be impaired following damage to the brain. The injury can be sudden, such as a traumatic brain injury or a stroke, or gradual, such as Parkinson’s disease or dementia. Either way, the resulting breakdowns in communication are real and frustrating for the individuals and the people closest to them. Possible changes in speech, language, and cognitive communication, ways to identify breakdowns, and communication strategies will be shared by an experienced speech-language pathologist during this one-hour webinar.

Speaker Bio:

Rita Lenhardt, DHSc, CCC-SLP, is an Assistant Professor in the Speech-Language Pathology Program at Gannon University in Florida. She has over 15 years of clinical experience in the field of traumatic brain injury, including the assessment and treatment of neurogenic disorders across the lifespan. Dr. Lenhardt teaches graduate-level courses in neuroscience and language disorders and presents at state and national conferences. Her current research is focused on the application of the project-based approach to TBI treatment. In 2015, prior to moving to the US from Canada, she was recognized by the Brain Injury Association of Ontario as Professional of the Year for her commitment to functional, meaningful, and evidence-based practice in the field of brain injury.
