Course Elements:

  • Recorded training module (est. 2 hours in length) covering topics such as concussion assessment, symptom management, return-to-play guidelines, and long-term implications of concussions
  • 8 chapter Understanding Concussion: Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment Approaches course manual as a one year digital subscription
  • Online course assessment, which is open book, non-proctored, with unlimited attempts. Participants scoring 80% or higher will earn a course certificate providing:
    • Five (5) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS) and/or
    • The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) has reviewed the Understanding Concussion: Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment Approaches course and deemed it acceptable for up to 5.00 Enduring Materials, Self-Study AAFP Elective credit(s). Term of Approval is from 06/01/2024 to 06/01/2025. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The Understanding Concussion: Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment Approaches Certificate Course provides foundational (101) knowledge on concussion symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment approaches. It is a valuable opportunity for those who interact with and care for individuals with brain injury, offering comprehensive knowledge and practical skills. Learning objectives in this course include:

  • Understand diagnostic tools for concussion assessment and treatment.
  • Describe the neurometabolic cascade and cognitive rehabilitation post-concussion.
  • Understand treatment options and return-to-activity guidelines.
  • Discuss factors impacting reporting accuracy and identify risk factors.
  • Recognize the need for collaboration, communication, and repeat assessments in concussion management, and describe social determinants of health in recovery.
